Oracle Application Express or ApEx is a rapid development tool provided by Oracle. We used Oracle WebDB, its predecessor, a few years ago for a project for a major bank in Zurich and for some reason we hadn’t thought of it for some years. The tool probably was not suitable
A couple of months ago we saw what ApEx can offer and back we are; the ease with which diagrams and charts can be offered is what we like the most.
Now, have you ever worked for companies with many databases? Where is the list kept? For sure in an Excell Spreadsheet! We work with relational databases and keep our repository in Excell, this is the sad truth. Spreadsheets never up-to-date, that nobody trusts.
And what about the managers that tell you off because the list is not in sync with the databases?
A database list written in ApEx has therefore been our first thought; please find a description of our dynamic db_inventory, always up-to-date, which even provides the output of opatch for the various ORACLE_HOMEs. We have stopped adding functionality to the application not to duplicate dbconsole... but it is true that one realizes how possibly parts of dbconsole were written using Application Express.
